Under the supervision of the Head Coach, the purpose of this position is to use athletics as a tool to educate college students.  By using inter-collegiate competition and all activities related to such competition, this position serves as a teacher and mentor to help build student character, prepare students for a constructive and effective life, and teach valuable life lessons including work ethic; discipline; resilience; persistence; teamwork and selflessness; goal-setting and goal achievement; overcoming adversity; and leadership. This position typically influences student-athletes for their entire four years at Harvard and plays a key role in shaping their personal development.

This position assists in planning, directing and coaching the Men’s/Women’s inter-collegiate Nordic Skiing program. Typically works with all student-athletes in the program.

This position plays a key leadership role for the Nordic skiing program. Will fill in when the Head Coach is absent. May play a role as liaison with Athletics administrative departments. Requires experience coaching at the collegiate level or comparable experience, which may include coaching/teaching at the club or professional level or competing in a professional or other high-performance environment.

This is a one-year term position renewable at the discretion of the Head Coach and the Athletics Director. Full-time, partial year (11 months).

Position Description

 

Athlete Team Management

  • Assists Head Coach in developing, coordinating, and planning practices and competition to develop student-athlete skills and helps team perform at competitive levels.
  • Develops, coordinates and plans assigned portions of practices and competition management consistent with Head Coach’s strategic vision.
  • Analyzes video to develop strategies for athlete development.
  • Executes a student-athlete talent recruitment plan and retention strategy consistent with values of excellence and inclusion.
  • Effectively leads and communicates with students by generating enthusiasm for the team through credible coaching.
  • Supports culture of education through athletics. Assists in academic integration with team.

  1. Operational Complexity
  • Assists in the development and execution of team strategy, logistics and operational direction.
  • Operates within budget.
  • Maintains compliance with University, Ivy League, NCAA and other rules and regulations.
  • Coordinates with less-experienced coaches in implementing objectives.
  • Participates in professional development activities; follows trends and embraces innovation opportunities.
  • Assists head coach in problem resolution.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with the Head Coach and athletics administrators.

 

Communication & Influence

  • Assists Head Coach in maintaining and building viewership, and maintaining and creating positive media interest, consistent with the sport.
  • Supports the Head Coach in influencing public interest where applicable.

In addition, the Assistant Coach will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating with Head Coach to maintain team equipment, organize equipment orders, and assist in ski preparation for training and competition.
  • Assisting in the planning and organization of home competition events.
  • Assisting with travel planning.
  • Assisting with recruiting of potential student-athletes.
  • Working with Head Coach to develop training schedules and annual training plans for the team.
  • Assisting Head Coach in team training sessions, and occasionally leading training sessions when necessary.
  • Operating team vehicles safely, including in winter weather conditions.

The Assistant Coach may lead some travel independently from Head Coach when academic or competition schedules require and will need to be capable of testing wax and preparing skis for high-level competition.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Requires at least 2 years of Nordic Ski coaching, or experience Nordic skiing at the collegiate, professional, or Olympic (or equivalent) level.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Requires substantial mastery of Nordic skiing knowledge and relevant issues.
  • Understands the philosophy, principles and policies of Harvard and Ivy League athletics (including the University Conflict of Interest and Commitment policy).
  • Requires moderate management and leadership knowledge.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license needed.
  • CPR and First Aid required.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift equipment associated with the sport.

Working Conditions

  • Evening and weekend work required.
  • Frequent travel is required.
  • Job requires work in extreme environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold, rain, and high levels of noise.

Nordic Ski School Director and Instructors: (2-3 people)
This job requires someone with an extensive knowledge of both classic and skate skiing techniques and previous experience teaching Nordic skiing. The applicant must show proficient Nordic skills either through past racing results or references. This position is in charge of ski lessons at Galena and on the North Valley Trail system as well as maintaining the Nordic Ski and snowshoe equipment. This position includes ski shop sales, rentals and waxing as well as daily weather and wax reporting. Other duties may include yurt servicing, snowshoe trail maintenance, fine dining service in the evenings, help orchestrating local ski events at the lodge and helping to shovel snow as needed.

Restaurant Staff: (2-3 people)
Galena Lodge is a casual, counter service lunch restaurant. The restaurant staff position includes opening the restaurant for morning coffee and pastries, and working in a fast paced lunch service in addition to some evening and fine dining services. The server position requirements include serving, bartending, taking reservations for dinner and yurt stays, and attentive customer service.   Previous serving and customer service experience is preferred, but we will consider providing training for the right enthusiastic candidate.

The ASC is a non-profit organization operating a snow sports facility with Alpine, Snowboard, Nordic, Biathlon programs, clinics, competitions,  and social events with a 25km Nordic Center open to the public. 

ASC was born from the visionary founders of the Auburn Ski Club in 1928. For years the organization worked as a ski club to support snow sports in Northern California. Today, we operate with much a broader regional reach with multiple snow sport disciplines, including being the only Biathlon training facility in California.

Position Purpose:

The Assistant Coach is responsible for aiding the Head Nordic Ski Coach in administering a competitive NCAA Division III intercollegiate program.  This position supports the development of student-athletes through mentorship, guidance, leadership opportunities, community building, and a commitment to social justice.

The Assistant Coach focuses primarily in the areas of planning and directing recruitment, training, conditioning and performance of student-athletes, along with fiscal management of the program. This is a professional assistant coaching position, and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of affiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the NCAA, the NESCAC Conference, and the College.

Assistant coaches work in partnership with the Office of Admission in order to recruit, admit, and enroll an academically and athletically talented and diverse class of students. The position will assist with various recruitment projects assigned according to previous experiences and program needs. The Assistant Coach will have significant night and weekend commitments. This position reports to the Head Coach

Job Duties:

  • Adheres to and enforces all policies and procedures of the Department of Athletics & Physical Education and the College as well as the rules and regulations of the NESCAC, the NCAA and other authorities that may legitimately influence the intercollegiate athletics program.
  • Completes all required departmental and institutional training and certification programs and participates actively in available professional development opportunities.
  • Assists in the recruitment of student-athletes as directed by the head coach. Ensures full compliance with NESCAC and NCAA guidelines in all aspects of the recruiting process with an emphasis on equity and inclusion. May represent Bates at high school visits, college fairs, and other off- and on-campus recruiting events.
  • Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes, including counseling team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters.
  • Assists the head coach in monitoring the eligibility status and academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Provides support in carefully tracking expenditures for all team accounts to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Works with the head coach and equipment manager to initiate and coordinate the selection, purchase, fitting and maintenance of team equipment; to include uniforms, athletic equipment and supplies.
  • Assists the head coach in developing and implementing strategies for motivating student-athletes to perform at maximum levels as both individuals and a team.
  • Arranges team travel transportation arrangements through Assistant AD for Administration and team lodging arrangements through the department Business Manager.
  • Works closely with the strength and conditioning and sports medicine staff to ensure that student-athletes are physically prepared for competition.
  • Assists with approved fund-raising activities as requested and coordinates all such efforts through the Director of Athletics and Office of College Advancement
  • Compiles data and reports in a timely fashion when requested by the head coach or a senior level administrator.
  • Ensures the safety of student-athletes and coaching staff through careful monitoring of the condition of athletic equipment and facilities utilized by the designated sport.
  • Confirms that sport camps and clinics related to the sport program adhere to NCAA and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the head coach, Director of Athletics or any other senior level administrator.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization preferred.

Experience

  • Experience playing or coaching the sport, college level preferred
  • Experience and/or demonstrated success in supervising young adults and managing programs preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Commitment to equity and inclusion, and serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse community.

The WPCC Nordic Program is in the Rocky Mountain Division and competes at regional and national level events annually.

The surrounding Fraser River Valley and communities provide a fantastic environment for training and outdoor recreation. Additionally, the WPCC Nordic Program collaborates with Snow Mountain Ranch / YMCA of the Rockies to provide a high-quality training and racing venue, with over 100 kilometers of groomed trails. The WPCC Nordic has a large, robust and invested Nordic ski community including the Grand Nordic Ski Club, Colorado Biathlon Club, Colorado Nordic Masters, and the Grand County Nordic Race Series.

Job Description:

The WPCC is seeking a motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team:

  • Nordic Program Director to oversee and administer all aspects related to the WPCC Nordic Program, Coaching Staff, and athletic development. This position could also encompass the duties of the Nordic Competition Team Head Coach.
  • Nordic Competition Team Head Coach focuses on high school-age athletic development and JNQ racing. This position plays a crucial role in the development of our athletes, both on and off the snow, while upholding the values and mission of WPCC.
  • Nordic Development Program Coaches (5) focuses on younger athletes (U8- U14). This position plays a crucial role in the development of our younger athletes, both on and off the snow, while upholding the values and mission of WPCC.

Key Responsibilities for the Nordic Director and/or Head Nordic Coach:

  • Collaborate with co-coaches and Nordic Program Director weekly on training plans tailored to support individual athletes as well as the team as a whole, utilizing resources such as USSS Long Term Athlete Development Plan.
  • Send weekly email newsletters to team families with the training plan, resources for athletes, supportive and engaging videos or articles and community events.
  • Plan all aspects of a race weekend and/or team camp, including budget, lodging, meals, race preparation activities, daily enrichment activities, and travel plans for approximately 40-50 athletes. Ensure that all vans are packed with essential items required for the race weekend or camp.
  • Organize and maintain WPCC waxing gear, including pre-season wax orders and in-season cleaning of test skis and tools.
  • The Competition Team Head Coach is expected to be at all RockyMountain Nordic Division race weekends and all team camps.
  • Create a nurturing team atmosphere through effective positive communication strategies. Use SafeSport standards to provide an environment that is supportive and safe for all athletes on the team.
  • Drive a WPCC Nordic van, as well as shuttles to training camps and race trips, which may involve extended periods of driving.
  • Guarantee the upkeep of travel vans by scheduling routine oil changes, tire rotations, and ensuring they are adequately fueled. Coordinate with athletes to allocate time for van cleaning sessions, fostering a sense of responsibility and teamwork among the team members.
  • Work closely with fellow coaches and staff to meticulously plan enrichment sessions, such as team ski waxing nights, mental health workshops tailored for races, and nutrition sessions specifically designed for teenage athletes.
  • Delegate to Development and Competition Team co-coaches, as necessary, for race/camp planning, practice set-up, cleaning and maintenance of waxing equipment, van maintenance, athlete support, race/camp packing, etc.
  • Arrange substitute or fill-in coaches as necessary in the event of absences among the Nordic coaching staff.
  • Complete USSS Level 100/200m Coaching Certification, pass background check, complete SafeSport training, and have a valid driver’s license.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, Abilities & Background:

  • Demonstrate passion for the mission and values of WPCC, with a commitment to promoting the organization’s goals.
  • Nordic Race Experience: College-level or higher experience Nordic ski racing preferred.
  • Previous Coaching Experience: Must have at least 2 years of coaching high-school-aged athletes or older.
  • Safe and Fun Environment: Create and maintain a safe, engagingand enjoyable environment for athletes during training sessions and off-snow activities.
  • Leadership: Lead and direct athletes through various practice activities, demonstrating strong leadership skills and a strong emphasis in fostering a positive team culture.
  • Communication Skills: Exhibit effective communication skills with athletes, parents, and co-coaches, ensuring transparency and clarity in all interactions.
  • Collaboration: The Competition Team Head Coach must be capable of both independent work and collaboration with co-coaches across all age groups within the organization. They must maintain strong and clear communication with the Nordic Program Director as well as co-coaches, ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives.
  • Work Ethic: Strong work ethic, willingness, andability to work extended hours during the winter race season, race weekends and camps to support athlete development.
  • Planning and Adaptability: Proven ability to plan, facilitate, and adapt with in a structured environment, adjusting training sessions as necessary to optimize athlete performance.
  • Nordic Expertise: Knowledge of Nordic training techniques, USSS Long Term Athlete Development Plan and a strong understanding of Nordic waxing and equipment.
  • Foster a positive, supportive and inclusive team culture.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training plans.
  • Engage with the local cross-country skiing community at events including town series races and other events.

(MINNEAPOLIS, MN)  – Emma Stertz, Dolcie Tanguay, Connor Roberts, and David Ronnevik, will join Team Birkie’s Regional Team.

The Regional Team is an opportunity for athletes to continue their development of high level ski racing, as post-graduate high school and post-graduate collegiate skiers.

“It’s exciting to have a strong group of experienced post-collegiate skiers join Team Birkie’s Regional Team,” said Development Coach Jake Stiele. “All four of these athletes bring with them unique experiences and perspectives along with years of high-level training and racing that will greatly benefit our team and the Midwest Ski Community.”

Stertz comes from The College of St. Scholastica and Tanguay from Paul Smith’s College, where both did dual time for their college ski teams while competing for the United States at the IBU Biathlon Junior World Level.

Roberts graduated from Clarkson University where he was runner up overall at the 2024 USCSA Collegiate Championships in Lake Placid.  Ronnevik is a post-graduate high schooler from Fergus Falls, MN, who finished 10th in the Minnesota State High School meet last winter.

USCSA Champion National Champion and former Junior World Championship Nordic Combined competitor, Aidan Ripp, joined Team Birkie Continental Team, after a strong career as the top USCSA skier in the country for Paul Smith’s College in northern New York.

Job Description

The Head Coach oversees all competitive youth programming, including the Comp and Devo Teams. The Head Coach works closely with the Programs Manager and the Youth Recreation Program Coordinator to achieve program goals and promote program continuity. The Head Coach works toward the program’s achievement of the organization’s philosophy, mission, and strategies.

Areas of Responsibility

Comp & Devo Team Coaching: Lead competitive youth skiing in Crested Butte by directing the Comp and Devo CB Nordic programs.

  • Direct and coordinate year-round training and competition schedule to develop a nationally competitive nordic ski program.
  • Create and maintain a safe and positive environment for all athletes and coaches.
  • Develop individualized goals, training, and relationships with CBNT athletes.
  • Hire, manage, and mentor Comp and Devo coaching staff, including the Assistant Comp Team Coach, Devo Head Coach, and volunteer coaches.
  • Apply the latest knowledge and methodologies in nordic ski training.
  • In collaboration with applicable coaches, plan all aspects of team race weekends, including lodging and travel plans for approximately 50 athletes.
  • Work collaboratively with the Programs Manager and Youth Recreation
    Program Coordinator to create an excellent youth programming experience for the Crested Butte Nordic community.

Program Administration:

  • Ensure CBNT is compliant with all applicable US Ski and Snowboard (USSS), and Rocky Mountain Nordic (RMN) policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
    • In accordance with USSS requirements, attain USSS coaching license, L100 coaching certification, and ongoing continuing education credits.
    • Represent CBNT in the RMN organization.
    • Complete and maintain CPR/First Aid certification through an accredited
      organization (i.e. Red Cross, AHA, NSCWMA).
    • Report any violations of CBNC or USSS policies (including, but not limited to,
      SafeSport violations) in compliance with organizational procedures.
    • Together with the Finance Manager and Executive Director, develop the annual CBNT Budget.
    • Work to ensure CBNT program adheres to budget and communicate potential significant overages to Programs Manager.
  • Maintain communication with local newspapers to ensure effective dissemination of information and promotion of CBNT’s activities.

Organizational Support:

  • All year-round and salaried staff should expect to contribute evening and weekend hours to events, clinics and/or fundraising gatherings to work towards organizational success.

Salary & Benefits:  

  • Annual salary is $32,000 – $38,000, based on experience.
    • Given the seasonal nature of the position, and the duties of the job, there will be some weeks that are more than 40 hours/week, and will include evenings and weekends. The CBNT Head Coach is expected to schedule their own office hours, breaks, and days off to ensure that they are working an average of 30-40 hours per week between November and March and an average of 15-25 hours per week between April and October.
  • A 5% performance bonus is provided.
  • A 3% IRA match contribution is made by CB Nordic after one year of employment.
  • Up to 6 weeks of paid vacation may be scheduled between events. Federal, state, and local holidays may be observed when they do not fall during CB Nordic Events.

Job Summary

This position serves as the leader of the men’s and women’s Nordic skiing and embraces the vision of principled leadership, academic integration, and competitive excellence. The Head Coach leads by developing a vision, setting team goals, and building a healthy and transformative culture. The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the program, including student-athlete development, planning and preparation for practices and contests, managing team staff, identifying and recruiting prospective student-athletes, budget, operational logistics, providing leadership to the respective Friends Group, and participating in appropriate University, community, alumni/ae and media relationships – all in compliance with University, Ivy League and NCAA rules and regulations.

The Head Coach uses athletics as the means to educate student-athletes. This position serves as a teacher and mentor in the holistic development of student-athletes to help build character and teach valuable life lessons including work ethic, discipline, resilience, accountability, adaptability, teamwork, humility and leadership – in support of the University and College missions. The head coach impacts personal development in addition to athletic development in a meaningful and lasting way.

The Head Coach is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of student-athletes to achieve and maintain peak performance. In the Ivy League, program success is defined broadly and involves much more than winning – a successful program imparts the life lessons described in the above paragraph and results in high levels of student satisfaction and healthy team culture. This position is a key ambassador for the Athletics Department and the University and must reflect the highest levels of integrity, ethical behavior, and adherence to the Ivy League principles. Overall program success begins with the leadership of the Head Coach.

This position typically requires extensive experience in coaching the sport, with coaching at the collegiate level strongly preferred. Particularly for sports that are more prominent on an international level than in the United States, comparable experience may include playing and/or coaching in a professional or other high-performance environment, such as for a national team or at the Olympic level.

This is a term position renewable at the discretion of the Athletics Director.

Position Description

1.     Athlete Team Management

  • Plans and directs practices, and in-game coaching; develops student-athlete knowledge and skills of the sport, and helps the team perform at competitive levels.
  • Promotes culture of education through athletics. Ensures student-athletes receive meaningful direction and support from coaches by fostering spirit of continuous improvement and learning. Balances athletics within the academic context.
  • Develops and oversees plan for student-athlete recruitment and retention that aligns with values of excellence and inclusion; responsible for strategy’s impact on team performance and reputation.
  • Credibly and effectively leads and communicates with student-athletes. Mentors student-athletes in embracing leadership roles. Uses athletics to educate students about character development and accountability.
  • Ensures academic integration of student-athletes with the values of Harvard College.

 

2.     Operational Complexity

  • Develops and supervises the execution of team strategy, budget, logistics, and operational direction; as appropriate, develops and executes national and international recruiting strategy.
  • Ensures compliance with University, Ivy League, NCAA, and other rules and regulations (including the University Conflicts of Interest and Commitment policy).
  • Leads, directs, and reviews the work of assistant coaches; recruits and develops assistant coaches.

  • Recruits assistant coaches and team operations staff.

  • Keeps abreast of Harvard policies, communications, and initiatives relating to employee relations, and keeps assistant coaches and staff informed as necessary.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Requires at least 5 (five) seasons of coaching Nordic skiing at the collegiate, professional, or Olympic level (club coaching will be considered). Experience competing as a Nordic skier at the collegiate, national, or Olympic levels will count towards this requirement.

Administer a Division I Alpine and Nordic Ski program consistent with the policies of the University of New Hampshire, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA), and other appropriate organizations or governing bodies.

The Director of Men’s and Women’s Alpine and Nordic Ski will lead all aspects of a highly competitive Division I Ski program and will be responsible for facilitating the academic, athletic, and overall growth of every ski student-athlete consistent with the Department of Athletics goals of providing an outstanding student-athlete experience. Additionally, this individual will work closely with the Ski Sport Administrator and Director of Athletics to continually assess and elevate the program’s status in the areas of academics, recruiting, staffing, budget tracking and reporting, equipment ordering, marketing/public relations, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, NCAA and conference rules compliance, alumni engagement, and fundraising.

Manage all aspects of an intercollegiate ski program and oversee either the Alpine or Nordic program, which includes coaching, race day equipment prep, recruitment of prospective student-athletes, monitoring of student-athletes’ academic progress, compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules, alumni relations, fundraising, and supervision of assistant coaches.

Acceptable minimum level of education:  Bachelor’s

Acceptable minimum years of experience:  5-7 years

Other minimum qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and policies
  • Experience coaching Alpine or Nordic skiing and recruiting strong classes of student-athletes
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and promote an inclusive work environment

  • Assist in the identification of career outreach opportunities for student-athletes. Engage the Wildcat Ski alumni and supporters locally and across the country through a systematic communication process along with the help of the Sports Administrator and Athletics Development staff.
  • Participate in friend- and fundraising activities as requested by the Director of Athletics and/or Athletics Development staff.
  • Conduct the ski program in accordance with all NCAA and Association rules, including attendance at compliance meetings, appropriate record keeping for recruiting and playing/practice seasons, monitoring eligibility of student-athletes in the program, and assisting in the education of student-athletes about NCAA and conference rules.
  • Participate in departmental activities, including service on committees and attendance at all required meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Athletics Administration.

Summary of Position: The Methow Valley Nordic Ski Educational Foundation (MVNSEF) is a dynamic organization looking for our next Biathlon (MVB) Director and assistant MVNT coach to foster excellence and youth development as a coach, organizer and administrator with special focus and leadership within the biathlon program. The right candidate for this position:

  • Is an enthusiastic and dynamic leader who connects positively with kids, parents, volunteers, and community members.
  • Implements a positive, cohesive, welcoming team culture which promotes personal and group excellence, the development of life skills through – and lifelong involvement in – biathlon, cross country skiing, and outdoor activities.
  • Ensures that the needs of the team are met and provides solutions when they are not. Depending on the skills, experiences, and interests of the right candidate(s), this role could also be separated into two positions: (1) MVN Youth Assistant coach, supporting the Program Director, and Head Coach for middle school aged skiers; or (2) a Biathlon Program Director and Coach.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Biathlon Program

  • Refine and implement MVB program (in conjunction with the Methow Valley Nordic Team) including development philosophies that support healthy youth development through the pursuit of achievement and excellence in biathlon. This includes the creation of developmentally appropriate progressions through the implementation of winter training, competition schedules, camps, and summer/fall dryland training opportunities.
  • Supervise MVB coaching staff on and off snow:
    • Recruit assistant coaches and ensure that all coaches are well-trained and empowered to provide innovative, fun training sessions and help each participant meet personal goals.
    • Outline duties and expectations for all coaches and provide post-season reviews as appropriate.
    • Ensure that coaches are fully inclusive of and provide fair and equitable attention to all participants in their group.
  • Lead the team on trips to camps and races, functioning as organizer, driver, coach, and chaperone.
  • Oversee biathlon races and events, including camps, and community “Try Biathlon,” days while supporting MVN race organizers as appropriate.
  • Conduct and record successful completion of Rifle Safety Certifications per USBA guidelines for MVB members and junior parents.
  • Conduct Range Safety Officer training for MVB-associated ranges for candidates meeting the requirements outlined in range operating procedures.
  • Coordinates MVB range openings or delegate responsibility to designated MVB member.

MVNT Program:

  • Make and oversee travel plans and arrangements for out-of-town races and camps, as assigned.
  • Facilitate parent engagement and volunteerism to support program operations and related events
  • Conduct post-season review of programs, including maintaining data on enrollment trends and attrition, and to develop annual goals in conjunction with the Youth Program Director and Executive Director.
  • Conduct a post-season review of programs with key stakeholders to assess the program and develop goals for improvement.
  • Meet with the Program Director and Executive Director regularly to create annual and seasonal work
  • plans, assess current state of programs, and adapt as needed.

Coaching:

  • Coach MVB and MVNT skiers at regular training sessions throughout the year.
  • Foster a training environment that welcomes and nurtures a broad range of athletes and develops life lessons through sport such as work ethic, discipline, goal-setting, resilience, teamwork, leadership, accountability and more.
  • Facilitate athlete goal setting with HS-age competitive athletes (in conjunction with other coaching staff) including an annual meeting with the skier and their parent(s).
  • Review athlete training logs on a regular basis and provide feedback and training adjustments as appropriate.
  • Support athletes at races including zeroing, ski service, etc.
  • Coach MVNSEF Masters ski groups at weekly sessions in the fall and winter and at camps and/or clinics as appropriate

Communication:

  • Maintain and facilitate consistent and clear communications with coaches, parents, and MVNT staff and board through email, website, and other media.
  • Respond to all job-related email, text and phone correspondence in a timely manner, following SafeSport protocol for all communications with minor athletes.
  • Send regular (weekly in winter) emails to parents and athletes regarding upcoming training sessions, logistics, and other pertinent information, that promotes excitement and involvement with upcoming events, while reinforcing program values and objectives.
  • Promote MVNSEF programs as fun, welcoming outlets for skiers and their families.
  • Promote and represent MVNSEF to the broader Methow Valley community, and the regional and national biathlon community.

Operations and Administrative:

  • Coordinate with Program Director for the organization and implementation of a welcoming environment for returning and new participants including conducting pre season meeting(s) and new member and parent orientation.
  • Ensure coaches and volunteers (including substitutes) complete membership, first aid, SafeSport training, and background checks prior to coaching with the program and follow standard safety protocols including concussion and MAAPP, incident reporting and SOPs.
  • Oversee the organization and distribution of team uniforms, maintenance and care of team equipment (including rifles) and training facilities (including ranges and targets).
  • Ensure that MVB ranges are used in a manner consistent with landowner MOUs and established range operating procedures.
  • Support fundraising efforts and donor stewardship in cooperation with MVNSEF staff, board, volunteers and parents.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Program Director to develop an annual Biathlon budget; conduct program according to budget.
  • Submit expense reports and appropriate documentation according to established procedures by the end of each month.
  • Review and approve monthly timecards and expenses for biathlon coaches and volunteers as appropriate.

General:

  • Conduct oneself as a model of professionalism by being timely and prepared.
  • Be a role model for youth and an advocate for life-long participation in skiing and healthy activity.
  • Maintain a clean driving record and obey all rules of the road when operating team vehicles.
  • Properly maintain and care for any equipment that is property of or loaned to the program.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Enthusiasm for and record of excellence in coaching youth age 6 to 18
  • Extensive knowledge of cross-country ski and shooting technique, training, and racing and a desire to continue to learn and develop skills and knowledge.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication
  • Valid driver’s license and experience driving large passenger vehicles and trailers.
  • Basic computer skills including email, word processing, spreadsheets, website editing and web based registration.
  • USBA Safety Certification or equivalent
  • US Ski and Snowboard L100 Coaches Training or equivalent

Preferable Skills and Experience:

  • Education in youth development and coaching such as post-secondary education in a related field and/or coach certification from US Skiing, US Biathlon and/or Biathlon Canada.

Position Summary: 

The Office Administrator is a highly visible and important position within the organization, ensuring our administrative office’s smooth and efficient operation. In addition to serving as the first point of contact with the public, the Office Administrator oversees office supplies and equipment, merchandise, membership and donor databases, and incoming and outgoing mail. The Office Administrator is responsible for working independently with minimal supervision, using their own initiative and judgment to manage workflow and handle most situations. They are expected to support NSAA staff with administrative processes, with a focus on continuously developing and improving systems. The Office Administrator works with staff and volunteers to provide program and bookkeeping support and may also represent the organization at occasional public events for publicity purposes.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Answer phone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries
  • Gain extensive knowledge of NSAA history, programs, and events to ensure exemplary customer service
  • Greet visitors and address inquiries in a professional and courteous manner
  • Provide information and process membership registrations
  • Support NSAA event, race, and program registrations and communications

  • Maintain a clean and neat office area and other common office areas
  • Arrange for maintenance of copy machine and other office equipment
  • Order and maintain office supplies
  • Run occasional errands, including bank deposits, delivering promotional materials, picking up supplies, print jobs, and recycling

Necessary Qualifications:

Overview

The Boulder Nordic Junior Racing Team (BNJRT) is a team based in Boulder, CO which has been training 8-19 year old athletes for more than 38 years as part of the USSS Rocky Mountain Division. With an average of 35 athletes per season, BNJRT is focused on providing an environment that fosters a lifelong love for the sport of Nordic skiing. Many athletes have the opportunity to compete at the national level while others view Nordic skiing as a great way to train for other sports. Either way, BNJRT prides itself on its “family” environment where support for all ages and abilities is encouraged to optimize the success of all athletes.

HEAD COMPETITION COACH & PROGRAM MANAGER

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of head coach will be for setting the overall training schedule for U16+ skiers and assisting with growth and development of skiers at the U14, U12, U10 levels as well as hiring, training, managing and supervising assistant coaches to run a successful Nordic ski program which both allows athletes the chance to compete at the highest levels and enjoy the sport.  With the added responsibility of program manager to coordinate and supervise all aspects of our Nordic team.

Essential Duties

  • Contribute to a positive environment to foster a lifelong love for the sport of Nordic skiing
  • Foster an inclusive and cohesive team dynamic among athletes and coaches
  • Be an active learner, communicate well and motivate youth skiers

Team Organization & Management & Communications

  • Work with the head development coach to manage and coach the entire team
  • Report to the BNJRT Board of Directors at monthly board meetings
  • Responsible for internal and external marketing communications (to the press, website, team blog) in conjunction with parent volunteer
  • Responsible for providing website updates, maintaining team blog and team training calendar
  • Generate timely and excellent communications with skiers and their parents, including weekly emails regarding training location, schedule, and focus for each age group
  • Responsible, in coordination with head devo coach for hiring, supervision, leadership, training, and oversight of the per diem coaching staff and implementation of training.   • Responsible for waxing equipment, ski team equipment and team rental gear
  • Coordinate van needs and maintenance with parent volunteers plus coordinate van usage and drivers with coaches
  • Coordinate team order night with BNS
  • Assist with BNJRT fundraising and outreach events

Racing/Training

  • Responsible for U16+ athletes; work with head devo coach to oversee training for all age groups
  • Participate in all Rocky Mountain Nordic Region monthly meetings
  • Responsible for all aspects of JNQ race weekends including race entries, waxing, coaches, athlete management, transportation, hotel/lodging options
  • Communicate with skiers and their parents, including weekly emails regarding training location, schedule and priorities for each age group
  • Development and management of weekly, monthly, and annual training schedules and plans for all BNJRT athletes, including use of Training Peaks or other training software
  • Responsible for supervision, leadership, training, and oversight of the coaching staff and implementation of training
  • Coach skiers of all age groups with a technique focus – using extensive knowledge of classic and skate techniques with the ability to communicate technique to the athletes
  • Facilitate any outside strength training as needed
  • Conduct fall dry-land training sessions and the winter ski training sessions
  • Hold a Thanksgiving Camp (depends on interest level of BNJRT skiers and compensated by athletes attending)

Optional

  • Opportunity to attend Junior Nationals as a part of the RMN staff if selected by the Rocky Mountain Nordic Region
  • Opportunity to attend S. Nationals (depends on interest level of BNJRT skiers)

Tentative team training schedule

HEAD DEVELOPMENT COACH

Position Summary 

The primary responsibility of the head development coach is to set the overall training schedule for U14, U12, U10 levels BNJRT Skiers, and assist with growth and development of U16+ levels as well as hiring, training, managing and supervising assistant coaches to run a successful Nordic ski program which both allows athletes the chance to compete at the highest levels and enjoy the sport.

Essential Duties

  • Contribute to a positive environment to foster a lifelong love for the sport of Nordic skiing
  • Foster an inclusive and cohesive team dynamic among athletes and coaches
  • Be an active learner, communicate well and motivate youth skiers

Team Organization & Management & Communications

  • Work with the head coach and all assistant coaches, to manage and coach the entire team
  • Report to the BNJRT Board of Directors at monthly board meetings
  • Generate timely and excellent communications with BNJRT Skiers and their parents, including weekly emails regarding training location, schedule, and focus for each U14, U12 and U10 group
  • Responsible, in coordination with the head coach for hiring, supervision, leadership, training, and oversight of the per diem coaching staff and implementation of training
  • Help BNJRT Skiers set goals, review progress towards goals throughout the season and provide written feedback/report to parents
  • Responsible for waxing equipment, ski team equipment and team rental gear
  • Assist with BNJRT fundraising and outreach events

Racing/Training

  • Responsible for U14, U12 and U10 athletes; work with head competition coach to oversee training for all age groups
  • Participate, in coordination with the head competition coach, in all Rocky Mountain Nordic Division monthly meetings
  • Responsible for assisting head coach with all aspects of JNQ race weekends including race entries, waxing, coaches, BNJRT Skier management, transportation, and hotel/lodging options
  • Communicate with BNJRT U14 and younger skiers and their parents, including weekly emails regarding training location, schedule and priorities for each age group
  • Development and management of weekly, monthly, and annual training schedules and plans for U14 and younger skiers
  • Responsible for supervision, leadership, training, and oversight of the coaching staff and implementation of training
  • Conduct fall dry-land training sessions and the winter ski training sessions
  • Coach BNJRT Skiers of all age groups with a technique focus – using extensive knowledge of classic and skate techniques with the ability to communicate technique to the athletes
  • Hold a Thanksgiving Camp in coordination with the head competition coach (depends on interest level of BNJRT skiers and compensated by athletes attending)

Optional

  • Opportunity to attend Junior Nationals as a part of the RMN staff if selected by the Rocky Mountain Nordic Region
  • Opportunity to attend S. Nationals (depends on interest level of BNJRT skiers)

Tentative team training schedule

  • Winter – on snow, Dec. – Apr.
  • Preseason – dryland, Sept. – Nov.
  • Spring/summer – dryland, May – Aug. – compensation is in addition to contract payment

Minimum Qualifications (could be obtained by the beginning of the season)

  • Competitive race experience with extensive knowledge of classic and skate technique
  • Experience working with school-aged children
  • Coaching experience preferred

Sugar Bowl Academy invites motivated U14-U20 athletes to consider joining us for amazing training and racing in sunny California. Our program offers some of the best training in North America: more than 140km of trails at Royal Gorge XC, groomed through our campus, 300+ days of sun, 480 inches of snow annually, on campus strength and conditioning coach and facilities, thousands of miles of amazing single track for biking and running, biathlon, SkiMo, mountain biking and Sky Running opportunities, and a proven program of success.
